3R Ranch is located in the Piney Woods of East Texas, or also known as the ARK-LA-TEX. We are in the extreme Northeast corner of Texas located just off I-30 for easy access. The 3R Ranch is noted for being the first Rocky Mountain horse ranch of its kind in the area. We became interested in the breed after reading an article in a 2001 issue of Horse Illustrated™ magazine, detailing their gentle and curious nature. After raising Quarter Horses for some time, we decided to check out this fast growing breed of a much gentler kind.

Soon after we visited several stables in Kentucky, and studied bloodlines extensively, we then started our collection. In 2002 Red River Rocky Ranch was established. Presently, 3R is now the home of eight broodmares, several yearlings and two new foals. All are foundation stock from the five original Stallions including Tim, Sam, Kilburns, Squirrel and Yankee. Most mares have bloodlines on their dam’s side back to Tobe, which is unusual for this breed which was almost extinct only a decade ago.

As a small breeder of carefully selected mares, our breeding program is dedicated to producing foals with correct conformation, gentle temperaments, as well as that four beat gait that they are so well known for! All horses are handled daily and foals are imprinted at birth. Our full time trainer uses only natural horsemanship techniques in starting young horses.

We are proud members of the following associations: RMH,KMH,MPH,UMH. These associations help to preserve and promote the Mountain Horse.
